St Clair Beach Tours

Where Dunedin Meets the Ocean.

St Clair is Dunedin's best-known beach: a long sweep of sand facing the South Pacific, popular with surfers, walkers and families, with an esplanade of cafés behind it. Our tours stop here so you can feel the sea air and see a completely different side of the city.

The South Pacific

Wide horizons and rolling surf, only a short drive from the city centre.

The Esplanade

A promenade along the beachfront, with cafés and the historic hot salt water pool nearby.

A Short Stop

On our tours this is typically a stop of around 15 to 20 minutes, with time to walk on the sand or the esplanade.

Part of a Bigger Day

The same day includes Signal Hill, Baldwin Street, free time in the Octagon, the Otago Peninsula and Larnach Castle.

Two Ways to Visit With Us

Dunedin Shore Excursion. Our shared shore excursion for cruise passengers, about six hours, collects you from the Port Chalmers Cruise Ship Terminal or the Cruise Ship Wharf in central Dunedin, from NZ$264 per adult.

Private Excursion. Any day of the year: your own vehicle and local guide, booked by the hour, picking you up from your hotel, the airport or any Dunedin address.

Questions

Is St Clair on the Dunedin Shore Excursion?

Yes. St Clair is a stop on the Dunedin Shore Excursion and can be included on a Private Excursion.

How long do we spend at St Clair?

Typically around 15 to 20 minutes. On a Private Excursion you can choose to spend longer, for example to have a coffee on the esplanade.

Can we swim?

Swimming is not part of the tour stop. Surf conditions vary, so please swim only at patrolled beaches if you return on your own.

Is St Clair accessible?

The esplanade is paved and generally level, so you can enjoy the view without going onto the sand. Please contact us before booking so we can discuss your needs.
